Fatherhood

So I know that this is a little late because father's day was a few weeks ago, but it's never too late to celebrate fatherhood. I've been thinking a lot about it and specifically Jake's role in our little family. I'm so incredibly blessed to have found a man that has the desire to have a family and be an active role in our girl's lives. A lot of people today are left without fathers and might not even know what a father is because they have never had one in their life. That breaks my heart and I'm so thankful for the knowledge of a loving God, who is our Father in heaven. He loves us and will listen to the quiet pleadings of our hearts and wants to bless and care for us.

I looked up the word "father" in the dictionary and it says, "a male parent or someone who exercises paternal care over another person." That is about as basic as you can get. Fathers are so much more than that and are desperately needed in our society. I'm worried about where we are headed today as a country because the role of men (and women) aren't being taken seriously and they are skewed.  The world teaches that a real man is dominant, forceful, indifferent, strong, and other characteristics that aren't in line with a loving patient man. Today in my church we were discussing fatherhood and the need and importance of fathers in our lives. One of the leaders of our church said this about fathers, "To praise and encourage fatherhood and fathers is not to shame or discount anyone. I simply focus today on the good that men can do in the highest of masculine roles-husband and father." (Elder D. Todd Christoffereson) I love that we are taught that being a father and a husband is the highest masculine role. So today I wanted to just let my sweet husband know that he's doing a great job being a husband and a dad. He brings stability, patience, love, fun, protection, and many other things that we would be lost without. I made this fun little video of him so we can look back on all the fun memories of his being a daddy.

This is just another video from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It focuses on fathers' and the role that they play in conjunction with our Father in Heaven. It's one of my favorite little videos and my girls and I watch it all the time.
